aquaticThe George Nigh Rehabilitation Center Aquatic Facility offers the only warm water therapy in the Okmulgee County area with trained, licensed therapists.

Each therapist providing aquatic treatment has been trained and licensed in aquatic therapy principles to provide clients with individualized quality treatments to help them attain their goals. Aquatic therapy is also used to treat various other disabilities including: CVA/Stroke, spinal cord injury, arthritis, fibromyalgia, back injury/problems, joint replacements, orthopedic injury, and neurological impairments.

The basic physiological principals of warm water therapy can: decrease pain, swelling, weight bearing on joints, protective guarding and spasms, increase range of motion, strength and endurance, balance and proprioceptive skills, improve muscular control and coordination, cardiovascular fitness, and gait/walking skills.

GNRC offers two different programs for aquatic therapy. Individualized outpatient treatment services are available and rendered with a physician's order. Outpatient treatment is individualized with a trained, licensed therapist who will design a plan specific to the client's needs and work with the client until those goals are achieved or symptoms relieved.

The Community Aquatic Programs include - low impact aerobics with basic exercises in the water to increase range of motion, flexibility, and endurance levels. Some groups are taught by Arthritis Foundation Instructors and follow exercise guidelines established by the Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program. Special needs swimming classes for children and adults are also offered. For enrollment information contact GNRC.
